The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1582. Many of its buildings are located in the historic Old Town of Edinburgh. It played an important role in Edinburgh's role as a chief intellectual centre during the Age of Enlightenment, and helped give the city the nickname of the "Athens of the North".
LGBT societies
BLOGS is Edinburgh University’s LGBT+ Society.Members of BLOGS were involved in the discussions that led to the first Pride Scotia.
