The LGBT History Project is the UK's largest community-led archive of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans history. Its articles have been accessed more than 46 million times since its launch in 2011.
It is a virtual time capsule capturing the experiences of our own era, and a chronicle of previous centuries — the changing law, the response to health epidemics, the newspapers and magazines that come and go, television, sports, businesses, arts, music and theatre, events, pubs and clubs, and the remarkable diversity of people who have shaped our history.
The project was launched in June 2011, briefly operated as The UK LGBT Archive from December 2015, and returned to its original name in 2025.[1] In 2015 it became a Key Partner of LGBT History Month, and CHE voted to support it. In February 2016, Ross Burgess presented File:Creating an online archive for LGBT history.pdf at the LGBT History Month academic conference in Manchester.
