The University of Sheffield was founded in 1897 as the University College of Sheffield, and became a university in its own right in 1905. It occupies a number of buildings around the city of Sheffield.LGBT societies
Sheffield University Homophile Society was founded in June 1970. It started a Gay Action Group in the winter of that year, but folded in early 1971. It is listed as a CHE group in Amiable Warriors Volume One.[1]
Sheffield University Gaysoc was started in 1972. In the 1970s it catered for all students in the Sheffield area, not just the University students. In 1977 it was reported to have 63 members [2].
Sheffield University Students Union Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Executive is a former member of the LGBT Consortium[3] and is listed as a member of ILGA,[4] but the web address given is no longer in use.
The University of Sheffield LGBT Committee was a member of the Coalition for Equal Marriage.
