Thanet shown within Kent
Thanet is a local government district in Kent, at the north-eastern corner of the county. It includes the seaside towns of Margate, Ramsgate, and Broadstairs. At one time ships could sail through the Wantsum channel separating the Isle of Thanet but this has silted up, and Thanet is no longer an island.

LGBT history

Thanet Pride has taken place in Margate every year since 2007.[1]

In April 2012, Thanet Council voted to send a favourable response to the Government's proposals for Equal marriage, the first local authority to do so.The proposal had provoked much public debate, and the local MP Sir Roger Gale made remarks that were interpreted as homophobic about "militant homosexuals".
