Queen Mary University of London is a university mainly based in Mile End, London. It was founded in 1887 as the People's Palace. In 1915 it was renamed Queen Mary College, after the consort of King George V, and became a constituent college of London University. It later merged with Westfield College, and with the medical schools of St Bartholomew's Hospital and the London Hospital. As with several other institutions, it is now a largely independent university within the federal University of London.
