Police Scotland (official title the Police Service of Scotland) is the single police force covering all of Scotland from 1 April 2013.
It replaced the following forces, which were based on the previous regions and island areas:
- Central Scotland Police
- Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary
- Fife Constabulary
- Grampian Police
- Lothian and Borders Police (covering the Lothian and Borders regions)
- Northern Constabulary (covering the Highland region and the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland island areas
- Strathclyde Police
- Tayside Police
- Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency
LGBT history
In 2012 the Gay Police Association protested at the proposed issuing of bibles to Scottish police officers.[1] In Dec 2021 author J K Rowling raised questions about the approach of Police Scotland to gender self identification after Police Scotland confirmed that it would record rapes by offenders with a penis as carried out by a woman if they identified as female, regardless of whether they had legally changed gender [2].
