Bangor University was founded in 1885 as the University College of North Wales. In 1893 it became one of the founding colleges of the University of Wales. Its main buildings occupy a prominent position overlooking the city of Bangor, Gwynedd. Since 2007 it has been an independent university.
LGBT societies
Unity Bangor is the Students' Union LGBT society.
