Sussex

The historic county

Sussex is an historic county in south-east England, roughly corresponding to the ancient kingdom of the same name. It is divided into three administrative areas: the counties of East Sussex and West Sussex, and the city of Brighton and Hove (which is included with East Sussex for ceremonial purposes).

There is a single police force, Sussex Police, for the whole of the historic county of Sussex. Sussex Police were the first UK police force to advertise in the gay press. In May 1995 they placed an advert in the Pink Paper .

There was a Sussex Gay Liberation Front in the early 1970s.

The University of Sussex is located in Falmer, near Brighton.
