The North Riding shown within England
The North Riding is one of the historic divisions of the county of Yorkshire, along with the West Riding and East Riding. Principal towns included Middlesbrough, Richmond (Yorkshire), Whitby and Scarborough.

At the reorganisation of local government in 1974 the North Riding was abolished. The major part of the area was formed into the new county of North Yorkshire.
