The London Assembly is an elected body, part of the Greater London Authority, established in 2000. It scrutinises the work of the Mayor of London and has the power (subject to a two-thirds majority) to amend the Mayor's annual budget. 14 members are elected from individual constituencies, and another 11 on a London-wide basis by proportional representation. Elections take place every four years.
