Camberwell Town Centre
Camberwell is a district within the London Borough of Southwark. From 1900 to 1965 there was a metropolitan borough of Camberwell, within the then County of London. The centre of Camberwell is home to King's College Hospital and the Maudsley (psychiatric) Hospital.

LGBT history

Local gay pubs have included the Union Tavern in Camberwell New Road and the Father Redcap in Camberwell Green.

In 1972, GLF had weekly meetings in the public library in Knatchbull Road.[1]

The Southwark Lambeth Area Gay Society began as a meeting in 1976 of the Southwark/Camberwell section of Lewisham CHE Group and met at the St Giles Centre in Camberwell Church Street, the Union Tavern and the Grove Tavern[2]

The Gay Camberwell website listed local LGBT facilities, but the website was not been updated since November 2011, and has since disappeared.[3]

Until 2009, Gay London Swimmers held weekly gay nude swimming sessions at Camberwell Leisure Centre.

The Camberwell Gay Book Group met for a time at the Castle pub, Camberwell Church Street.
