Location of Herefordshire within England
Herefordshire is a county in the West Midlands region. It is predominantly agricultural. The Herefordshire County Council is a unitary authority, there being no longer any district councils.

In 1974 Herefordshire was united with Worcestershire to form the county of Hereford and Worcester, but this proved unpopular, and the two counties were separated again in 1998.

Herefordshire is part of the West Mercia Police area.
