Swansea (Welsh: Abertawe) is a city and county in South Wales. The local authority district includes the built-up area of Swansea as well as the scenic Gower Peninsula. It was formerly in Glamorgan, and is within the preserved county of South Glamorgan. It was once a centre of the copper industry. The Swansea and Mumbles Railway was the first in the world to carry fare-paying passengers.LGBT history
Swansea at one time had a GLF group, and later a CHE group.
Swansea Pride is held annually on the last Saturday in June.[1]
Local LGBT organisations include:
- the Swansea Bay LGBT Unity Project[2]
- the Swansea LGBT Forum[3]
- Tawe Butterflies (trans group).
The LGBT Excellence Centre lists a number of LGBT-related events from 1976 onwards.[4]
