Swansea (Welsh: Abertawe) is a city and county in South Wales. The local authority district includes the built-up area of Swansea as well as the scenic Gower Peninsula. It was formerly in Glamorgan, and is within the preserved county of South Glamorgan. It was once a centre of the copper industry. The Swansea and Mumbles Railway was the first in the world to carry fare-paying passengers.
