In 1974 the district was created (as Langbaurgh in 1974 in the county of Cleveland) from part of the former county borough of Teesside. In 1988 it was named Langbaurgh-on-Tees.
LGBT history
The lesbian campaigner Esmé Langley was born in Guisborough in 1919.
In 2010 the local NHS Trust became a Stonewall Diversity Champion.[1]
