University coat of arms

The University of Lancaster was founded in 1964. Originally based in Lancaster city centre, it moved in 1968 to a purpose-build campus at Bailrigg, three miles south of the city centre. In the 1970s the University was seen as a haven for homosexuals and the students produced gay liberation literature [1].
