Wimbledon town centre

Wimbledon is an area within the London Borough of Merton. Prior to 1965 it was a borough within Surrey. It is known internationally for the tennis championship, held every year since 1877.

LGBT history

Havelock Ellis went to school in Wimbledon and Mitcham.

Rose Collis was born in Wimbledon.

Wimbledon Area Gay Society was founded in 1973 and was refounded as South London Gays in 1995.
