Dorset is a county in south-west England. It includes two unitary authorities: Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and Dorset Council.

Prior to 2019 the county council area included six non-metropolitan districts (Weymouth and Portland, East Dorset, West Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck and Christchurch districts, and the ceremonial county also included the Bournemouth and Poole unitary authorities.

Christchurch and Bournemouth were part of Hampshire until 1974.

LGBT history

Norman Notley and David Brynley moved to Corfe Castle, Dorset in 1923 and lived openly as a couple for nearly six decades.The two men – successful musicians who sang together in Britain and the United States – lived peacefully with the local community for 57 years until their deaths. [1]

Space Youth Project is a group for young LGBT and questioning people under 25 based in Dorset.
