Barrow-in-Furness is a town and local government borough in Cumbria. Prior to 1974 it was the main town in the Furness area of Lancashire.
In the late 19th century Barrow was the site of the world's largest steelworks. During the 20th century it became a major naval shipyard, specialising in the building of submarines.
