Stockton-on-Tees town centre
Stockton-on-Tees is a market town and borough in north east England. The borough was formed in 1974 and was then part of the county of Cleveland. When Cleveland was abolished in 1996 Stockton-on-Tees became an independent unitary authority. For ceremonial purposes it is divided between County Durham and North Yorkshire.

The Stockton and Darlington Railway, opened in 1825, was the world's first passenger railway.
