Treorchy
Treorchy (welsh Treorci) is a former mining village in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf in South Wales, with a population of approximately 7,500.[1]
LGBT history
In 2019 a Welsh Pride was planned for the village called Rhondda Pride. Organisers asked attendees not to wear "sexualised costumes" to ensure the event was family friendly and suitable for children and teenagers to attend. The Leathermen Cymru, a social club for gay leather-wearers in Wales, were told that they could not attend the event. However some members of LGBT communities in Wales complained that Pride included fetish and bizarre and any dress code went against the tradition of Pride. The organisers changed their minds and apologised for their mistake.[2] The Member of Parliament representing Rhondda (which includes Treorchy), Chris Bryant, who is gay himself, was disappointed he had not been invited to be involved initially.
