Middleton is a town in the North of England, formerly a borouch in Lancashire, but now within the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, in Greater Manchester. It gives its name to the Bishop of Middleton, one of the suffragan (assiatant) bishops in the diocese of Manchester.
LGBT history
In 1964 the then Bishop of Middleton, Ted Wickham helped with the setting up of what eventually became the Campaign for Homosexual Equality.
Thomas Moulton, from Middleton, was one of the founders of the Pink Triangle Theatre.[1]
