Anglesey (Welsh: Ynys Môn) is an island off the North Wales coast, separated from the mainland by the Menai Strait. It is one of the historic counties of Wales; in 1974 it became a district within the county of Gwynedd, but in 1996 it was restored as a county and unitary authority, within the preserved county of Gwynedd. In 2011, following difficulties with the elected councillors, the Welsh Government appointed commissioners to run the county until new elections could be held.
Anglesey is within the North Wales Police area.
