GALHA LGBT Humanists

The Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association (GALHA) is a UK organisation promoting Humanism and LGBT equality. It was founded in 1979 as the Gay Humanist Group (GHG).

Following the prosecution by Mary Whitehouse of Gay News in 1977, Mrs Whitehouse became the target of protests by the National Secular Society and others,and began declaring that "everything good and true" that "every decent person believes in" was being undermined by "the humanist gay lobby". At this time there was actually no "humanist gay lobby", but this prompted a few people that there ought to be one, and the GHG was launched during CHE's 1979 conference in Brighton.

During 2010–11 GALHA sought to become a registered charity, but was unsuccessful because of its campaigning activities. The Pink Triangle Trust, an LGBT Humanist charity, was originally set up to support GALHA, but the two organisations have now became quite separate.
