Holocaust Memorial Day is held in the UK every year on the 27th of January, on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945. It commemorates those who lost their lives as a result of Nazi persecution, including Jews, communists, people of various nationalities, and the gay men who wore the Pink triangle. Similar events are held in other countries.
