Batley is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire.

LGBT history

Keegan Hirst, captain of the Batley Bulldogs rugby team, was the first Rugby League player to come out as gay.[1] Batley and Spen is the parliamentary constituency. Member of Parliament Kim Leadbetter was elected at a by-election in July 2021. Leadbetter is openly lesbian and lives with her partner Clare.
