Ripon is a cathedral city and market town in the borough of Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

LGBT history

The retired bishop Derek Rawcliffe acted as an honorary assistant bishop in the diocese of Ripon (since renamed the diocese of Ripon and Leeds) but was banned from doing so when it was revealed that he was gay and had been blessing same-sex partnerships.
