Portsmouth CHE Group was founded in Portsmouth in June 1972, and was recognised as a CHE group in November 1972. It was formed from South West Hants CHE Group[1]. This group appears to have dissolved. A Portsmouth group was 'revived' in Jan 1980 and called the Portsmouth Gay Community Society, meeting at the Community Advice Centre in Church Road [2]. By 1981 it known as Portsmouth CHE and was meeting at the King's Hotel in Southsea [3]. In September 1982 a new Portsmouth CHE group was formed as a breakaway from the Portsmouth Gay Community Society. The CHE group held meetings in the Central Library [4].
