Bassetlaw is a local government district comprising the northern part of Nottinghamshire. It is mainly rural, with two towns, Worksop and Retford. There is no town or village called Bassetlaw: the district is named after the Bassetlaw wapentake (one of the historic divisions of Nottinghamshire).

LGBT history

Ian Campbell is a local councillor and was thought to be the UK's first openly gay mayor when he was elected as Town Mayor of Retford in 2010.

Bassetlaw LGBT Forum was set up in July 2013.[1]
