Andy Street, born 1963 is a business man and Conservative politician. He was formerly managing director of the John Lewis retail chain. In 2017 he was elected the first Mayor of the West Midlands. In 2024 he was narrowly defeated in the contest for the Mayor of West Midlands [1].He was born in Banbury, Oxfordshire, and moved to Birmingham with his parents, both scientists,[2] when he was ten months old, growing up in Northfield and Solihull.[3] He attended Green Meadow Infants School, Langley Junior School and King Edward's School in Edgbaston.[3][4] He studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Keble College, Oxford.[5]
Street is openly gay.[6] He is a close friend of the Conservative MP Michael Fabricant,[7][8] with whom he shares a holiday home.[9] In December 2021, Fabricant described his relationship with Street as being life partners.
