Arthur Jeffress
Arthur Jeffress (1905-1961) was an art collector. He lived just outside Winchester in the mid 1930s with John Deakin, later Francis Bacon's favourite photographer [1]. Jeffress opened a gallery in London and bought a house in Venice. On his suicide in 1961 he bequeathed his collection to Southampton City Art Gallery and the Tate Gallery.
