Dr Justin Varney is a doctor and public health expert. He is a former co-chair of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Doctors and Dentists (GLADD).[1] and a former trustee of the LGBT Consortium.[2]

On qualifying as a doctor he was advised not to become a GP because he was gay.[3]

From 2006 to 2013 he was consultant in public health medecine at NHS Barking and Dagenham. He contributed most of the material towards Barking and Dagenham's Health with Pride website aimed at gay and lesbian service users and staff.[4]

In 2010 there was controversy over items he had written in a blog about his own sexual experiences.[5]

In April 2013 he joined the national Health and Wellbeing Directorate of Public Health England.
