It grew out of Friends Homosexual Fellowship, formed in 1973.<ref name=about /> 
In 1992 a short film 'Love Makes a Family: Lesbian and Gay Families in the Religious Society of Friends' was produced.
The group was replaced by Quaker Gender and Sexual Diversity Community in 2017.

[[Sex Matters to Quakers]], set up about 2023, is a group of Quakers in Britain who believe that sex is a biological reality and support women’s sex-based rights <ref> https://www.facebook.com/groups/sexmatterstoquakers/ (accessed 9 August 2023) </ref>.

The divisions within the Society of Friends (Quakers) over gender ideology and gender critical, and the attempts to suppress dissenting gender critical views, have in 2023 caused great anxiety amongst many Quakers.
