Location of Merthyr Tydfil borough within Wales

Merthyr Tydfil (Welsh: Merthyr Tudful) is a town in South Wales. It is the main town in the county borough of Merthyr Tydfil, which is now a unitary authority, but treated for ceremonial purposes as part of the preserved county of Mid Glamorgan. In the 19th century the growth of the local ironworks led to a great expansion of the town until it became for a time the most populous town in Wales.

LGBT history

There was a Merthyr Tydfil CHE group at one time.

In 1979 Merthyr Crown Court heard that a former councillor and ex-magistrate had indecently assaulted a 25-year-old store manager after turning his car on to a mountain road.[1]

The Merthyr Tydfil LGB Group was launched in 2008.[2]

In May 2012 a local gay couple won a million pounds on a lottery.[3]
