Carmarthenshire (Welsh: Sir Gaerfyrddin) is a county in Wales, considered to be part of either South Wales or West Wales. In 1974 it was divided into three districts within the larger county of Dyfed. In 1996 the county was re-established, as a unitary authority. For certain ceremonial purposes it is still considered to be within the preserved county of Dyfed. The main towns are Llanelli, Carmarthen and Ammanford.

The 19th century writer Vernon Lee came from a Carmarthenshire family.
