Newport is a city and local government area in South Wales. It was formerly in Monmouthshire and for ceremonial purposes it is within the preserved county of Gwent.
Newport Cathedral is the seat of the Church in Wales Bishop of Monmouth.
LGBT history
There was a Newport (Gwent) CHE Group in the 1970s.
Tredegar House, Newport was the family home of the eccentric poet, Evan Morgan, 2nd Viscount Tredegar.
Newport Pride is held annually.[1]
Rainbow Newport is a local LGBT community support group.
