Dorset is a county in south-west England. It includes two unitary authorities: Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and Dorset Council.
Prior to 2019 the county council area included six non-metropolitan districts (Weymouth and Portland, East Dorset, West Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck and Christchurch districts, and the ceremonial county also included the Bournemouth and Poole unitary authorities.
Christchurch and Bournemouth were part of Hampshire until 1974.
