Sherborne School

Sherborne is a town in West Dorset, noted for Sherborne School, supposedly attended by King Alfred the Great, and re-founded in 1550. Old boys of the school are known as "Old Shirburnians".

Evelyn Waugh was intended to go to Sherborne like his father and elder brother, but the plans fell through after Alec was asked to leave as a result of a gay relationship, and subsequently published a novel depicting gay friendships amongst schoolboys.
