Simon Fanshawe

Simon Fanshawe (born December 1956 in Devizes) was one of the founders of Stonewall. He won the Perrier Comedy Award in 1989. In 2017, Fanshawe presented the BBC documentary Brighton: 50 Years of Gay. He was appointed OBE in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to higher education. In 2019, he became one of the supporters of the initiative that led to the formation of the LGBAlliance. In November 2020 he hosted an online discussion The Gay Spot – Are gay men getting lost in the gender identity debate? organised by the LGBAlliance. in February 2024 Fanshawe was appointed Rector of Edinburgh University.
