Orlando nightclub shootings

On 12 June 2016, there was a mass shooting at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The gunman, Omar Mateen, killed 49 people and wounded 53 others before being shot dead by police. This was the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in United States history.
The event provoked responses around the world. In the UK, the rainbow flag was flown at half-mast in many places, and there were vigils in Soho and elsewhere.[1]
