Welcome to LGBT History UK

This wiki is a community project documenting LGBT history across the UK. Before your account is approved, please take a few minutes to read these terms. We've kept them short, and they actually matter.

What we ask of you

Use your real name

Your account application must include your real name. This is a small, trust-based community. Pseudonymous editing is not permitted.

Contribute honestly

Only add information you believe to be accurate. If you're not certain of a fact, say so on the article's talk page. Speculation and unsourced claims are likely to be removed or queried by an editor.

Everything you write here is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA 2.0 UK) licence. This means:

  • Write in your own words. Do not copy text from other websites, books, or publications without permission.
  • Images and photographs must be your own work, freely licensed, or used with the copyright owner's permission. See the illustrations and photographs guidelines.

Follow the editorial guidelines

The Editorial Policy covers neutrality, sourcing, handling sensitive topics, and how articles should be structured. Please read it before you start editing.

No vandalism or abuse

Edits that are deliberately harmful, offensive, or made in bad faith will be reverted. Repeated misuse will result in your account being suspended.

What we do not allow

The following will be removed immediately and will normally result in account suspension:

  • Advertising — this is a non-commercial, community history project. Do not use articles, talk pages, or user pages to promote businesses, products, services, or events, even if they are LGBT-related.
  • Irrelevant links — external links must be directly relevant to the subject of the article. Links to unrelated websites, social media profiles, or commercial sites will be treated as spam.
  • Pornography or sexually explicit content — this wiki documents history. Explicit sexual images or text have no place here and will be removed without discussion.
  • Hate speech or illegal content — content that is racist, transphobic, homophobic, or otherwise abusive, or that is illegal under UK law, will be removed and reported.

Moderation

All edits by new users go through a moderation queue and are reviewed by a sysop before appearing publicly. This is standard practice for new accounts and is lifted once we are confident you are editing in good faith.

Your personal information

We hold your name, email address, and account application details on our server (hosted on Amazon Web Services). We do not share this information with third parties. If you would like it removed, contact a sysop. See also the privacy policy.

Account suspension

Accounts may be suspended without notice if they are used in breach of these terms, or if they have been inactive for an extended period.
