The Alba Party is a Scottish nationalist and pro-independence political party in Scotland, founded in February 2021, led by former first minister of Scotland Alex Salmond.

Two Members of Parliament (MPs) in the UK House of Commons defected from the Scottish National Party (SNP) to the Alba Party on 27 March 2021, and several former SNP MPs also joined the party. Its platform opposed proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act in Scotland until a citizens assembly can be formed to discuss and debate the perceived conflicts between sex and gender based rights.

James Neale Hanvey (born 28 December 1964) [1] is the Leader of the Alba Party in the House of Commons, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath, since 2019. Hanvey is one of 45 openly LGBT MPs. He lives in Fife with his partner, Avelino del Carmen Prado Cortes, and two sons. The couple have been together since 1994, and entered into a civil partnership in 2011.
