Ely is a cathedral city in East Cambridgeshire. The Isle of Ely had its own county council until 1965.

LGBT history

William Longchamp was Bishop of Ely from 1189 to 1197.

John Browne, Baron Browne of Madingley was educated at the King's School, Ely.
