South Wales Police (Welsh: Heddlu De Cymru) was formed in 1969. In 1974 it was expanded to cover the new counties of Mid Glamorgan, South Glamorgan and West Glamorgan. Following a further local government reorganiasion it now covers the districts of Bridgend, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, and the Vale of Glamorgan.
