Karl Salsbury Wood

Karl Salsbury Wood (1888 -1959) was an artist. Karl was born in Newton, Melbourne, Derbyshire in 1888 and became an art master. Karl served his country during the great war when he enlisted in the Third Seaforth Highlanders, he achieved the rank of Corporal and would be wounded in combat, after the war Karl moved to Gainsborough in Lincolnshire. An early love of Karl's life was a composer by the name of William Baines who would die in 1922 from consumption of the bowel. Shunned in the town that he made his home Karl, aged 63, left Gainsborough forever, moving to Elgin in Scotland where he died on the 10th of January 1958 [1] .
