Positive East is a leading community-based HIV Charity based in East London. Building on more than 20 years of experience in the successful delivery of services, it provides a fully comprehensive and co-ordinated practical and emotional support for people living with and affected by HIV.

It was previously called the London East AIDS Network (LEAN) but changed its name in 2006.[1]

Its aim is to create a safe environment for people to receive peer and professional support. Central to all Positive East services is the principle of self empowerment i.e. people, where ever possible, should be independent and in control of their lives, to help maintain independence and not create dependence.

Mission

To improve the physical, economical, emotional and psychological quality of life for individuals and communities affected by HIV.

Services are delivered from the Stepney centre as well as from outreach venues across East London including Stratford. The charity's goal is to maintain the provision of a high quality standard service, providing a flexibility of approach to meet users' requirements.

Free, fast and confidential rapid HIV testing ("It's Better to Know") is provided at community locations in East London.
