Cleveland is an area and former county around the River Tees in northern England, also referred to as Teesside.

The county of Cleveland was created in 1974.

The county was abolished in 1996 and divided along the line of the Tees between two ceremonial counties, County Durham and North Yorkshire. For administrative purposes it was divided between four unitary authorities:

Cleveland Police (formerly Cleveland Constabulary) still exists, covering the former county.
