The poet Sappho
Sappho was a lesbian social group founded in 1972 by Jackie Forster and others. It was named after the ancient Greek woman poet Sappho (Greek Σαπφώ; c.620–570 BC). The group met at the Chepstow public house in Notting Hill every Tuesday, and meetings continued until the 1980s.

The group also published the widely read lesbian magazine Sappho.
