The Food Chain

The Food Chain is a charity that provides nutritional support to people living with HIV in London. The first meals were delivered on Christmas Day 1988, and meals have been delivered every week since then.
The Food Chain was established by friends of people living with HIV, inspired by American organisations. Set up in a time before effective medication was available, wasting was common, and good nutrition helped support the immune system and maintain a healthy body mass.[1]
On Christmas Day 1988, members of the central London Metropolitan Community Church delivered meals to people with HIV. The following year the service was developed more formally and took the name "The Food Chain". It became a charity in 1991.
