Wikimedia Commons is an online database in Wiki form of images that are free for anyone to use. See the details on Wikimedia commons itself for terms of use. I particular, the images are widely used on Wikipedia, but also on other Wikis, including this one.
There's a list of Wikimedia Commons images used on this Wiki (there are over 200 of them) at Special:WantedFiles where for technical reasons they are shown struck out.
